The Miners made it clear that basketball season had began in Bauxite.
Last Tuesday night the Miners faced off with the Woodlawn Bears in the season opener at home. With the 66-28 victory by Bauxite, it was declared a blow-out.
"I was pleased with the way the guys came out and played hard." said Miners' Head Coach Mark Hall.
Blazing the trail for the Miners was none other than junior guard, Travis Woods, who had 20 points in the contest.
"I'm real proud of the guys. Every one of them that stepped on the floor played with great intensity were gonna have to play with that intensity every night to play with the teams in out conference."
In the first quarter, Bauxite jumped out to an early lead of 22-7. Woods scored eleven of his points in the first quarter, and Dexter Reed added three points, including a free throw, while G.J. Mayle, Kyle Spann, and Erik Jernigan each added a basket.

Justin Hubbs started off the second quarter with a basket. Woods hit two consecutive shots, followed by Mayle with a basket and a free throw and Derek Glomski with two points. Chase Dunlap hit two out of four free throws to bring the score to 35-21 at the half.
"Defense is the biggest improvement I've seen so far. I think this year we're playing a lot more together on defense than they did last year. Defense is definitely our strong point. I think if they can continue playing good defense it'll put us in position to win. As long as they keep playing at that level I think the doors can open for us."
Glomski and Hubbs each picked up six points in the third quarter, followed by Woods with five, Mayle with four, and Zach Barnes with two.
Beginning the fourth quarter with a 58-28 lead the Miners weren't done there. Dunlap hit a free throw, as did Kenny Elder. Blake Childress, Will Barnes, and Tanner Bates all nailed a basket before the final buzzer.
With a final score of 66-28 the Miners came away with a big win.

Along with Woods' 20 points, Mayle and Glomski each had nine. Hubbs added eight, Dunlap and Reed both had three, while Spann, Jernigan, Zach Barnes, Will Barnes, Childress, and Bates picked up a basket a piece. Elder also added a point to the score board.
"I think they're disappointed in the fact that they could have played better, but as a coach any time you can get a win, especially with these guys because they worked real hard, is a good thing." Hall said. "Missing 19 free throws is not something we wanna live and die by. We've got a long way to go, but we'll take a win any day of the week."
