James Simmons Sr.

James Alvin Simmons Sr., 83, of Sardis died Nov. 5, 2008.

He was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Little Rock to Alvin and Ida Simmons.

Mr. Simmons was a WWII Navy veteran, a longtime member and deacon of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Sardis and retired from Arkla Gas Co.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Judith Simmons of Sardis; a son, James A. Simmons Jr. of Guatemala; a daughter, Judith K. Rowland of Sardis; a sister, Frances Glover of Little Rock; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Sardis with burial at McPherson Cemetery in Sardis. Minister was Bro. Rick Porter.
