The undefeated Crushers suffered their first pit-fall of the season issued by the Fountain Lake Cobras.
The captains met and midfi eld and the coin was tossed. The Crushers may have won that toss, but little did they know it would be their only victorious moment on their home turf against the Cobras.
Crushers head coach Shane Clancy said, "The biggest area needing improvement for the team is mental mistakes and pre-game focus."
After running seven offensive plays, most of which were runs by Tim Dunlap along with Dylan Herron, the Crushers punted. A fumble on the snap would put Fountain Lake within 22 yards of the goal line.
Taking advantage of the Crushers' mistake, the Cobras ran the ball up the left side for an easy touchdown and attached a two-point conversion on to the score to make it an 8-0 start.
Jaye Spradlin returned the Cobra kickoff to the 31, who followed again with a first down run to the 42 yardline. Herron added two yards and Dunlap pitched in a first down run.

Yet again, the efforts of Bauxite would be washed away with an error. This time a fumble at the 35 was recovered by Fountain Lake.
Dunlap and Matt Steele would end the quarter with back-to-back stops.
In the second quarter, Herron and Spradlin tag-team a Cobra player to force a punt on fourth and six at the Bauxite 46.
The Crushers received the punt at their own 22. Herron carries it across the 50 into Cobra territory. Short, yet effective, carries by Dunlap and Spradlin put the Crushers on the Fountain Lake 40. Dunlap fired to Logan Williams at the 20 leading to a touchdown. The unsuccessful 2-point conversion left Bauxite down 8-6.
Two plays after the Spradlin kickoff, the Cobras called time out while on the 43. The break from action paid off for the Cobras, because on the first play afterwards, the left side of the field was nothing but dust behind the Cobra offense as they ran it 43 yards to the endzone. Along with the successful two-point conversion, Fountain Lake's lead improved to 16-8.
After halftime, Spradlin's opening kick was fumbled and barley recovered at their own 22. Stops by Hunter Kidd at the 33, Steele at the 46, and Dunlap at the 42 lead to a forced Fountain Lake punt.
Dunlap's reception at the 10, followed by Spradlin's and Herron's carries, brought up a Crusher first down at the 22. Encroachment put Bauxite five yards closer to the endzone at the 27 yardline, but a false start called against them put the Crushers right back at the 22.
A Spradlin reception for another first down off thirdand 9, gave way for Dunlap to pick up another first down at the 38-yardline. Mitch Rosnermanz saved a Bauxite fumble.
A pass from Dunlap hit a receiver in the back and bounced in the hands of a Cobra with 53.3 seconds remaining in the third. After only one short play, the Crushers would recover a Cobra fumble at the 20- yardline of Fountain Lake in which they would carry to the 10.
In what seemed like an instant replay of the Cobras last play, Bauxite would gain a short two yards and fumble on second and goal from the eight. A Cobra scooped up the loose ball and sliced down almost the entire length of the open field to the endzone. With 13.1 seconds to go in the third, the Cobras added two more with a 2- point conversion.
"When you don't play well and you make mistakes and don't focus before the game that's what happens.' Clancy said.
After a short possession by Bauxite, which led to a game-ending injury for Spradlin,
The Cobras took over at the Bauxite 30 and score off their first play. Followed by a 2- point conversion, Foun- tain Lake took a 32-6 lead.
With 5:39 left to play, Dunlap carried the Crushers within 10 of the goal line and connected with Chris Revas for a touchdown.
Dunlap ran in a 2-point conversion to then make it a 32-14 ball game.
This was the Crushers first loss of the season.
"Fountain Lake is a good team," Clancy said. "They're well coached and they deserve to win."
Bauxite will take on Centerpoint Thursday night at The Pit.
The Crushers are coached by Shane Clancy, who is in his first year as the head coach. Clancy took over for Dennis Hudgens at the beginning of the year.
