John R. Krause

John Richard "Dick" Krause, 86, of Benton, died May 5, 2008, in Benton. He was born May 28, 1921, to Jack and Anna (Ramke) Krause in Chicago, Ill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Wieboldt.

He attended First Baptist Church in Benton and was a U.S. Army veteran where he served 33 months as a weather officer in the U.S. and Europe.

He was in charge of weather detachments at various airfields in Ireland and England and did weather intelligence work in Germany where he supervised German radio and weather instrument experts.

Mr. Krause joined Reynolds Mining Co. as a mining engineer in 1949 at Bauxite, was named chief engineer in 1952, became assistant manager of mining operations in 1964 and in 1972 was named manager of Reynolds Metals Co. Mines.

In 1978 he was promoted to general manager of Reynolds Jamaica mines where he served until his return to Arkansas in 1980.

Gov. Dale Bumpers appointed him to the Arkansas Geological Commission when he was manager of Reynolds Metals Co. Mines and vice president of Reynolds Mining Corp.

He retired from the company after more than 34 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Arvella (Lovell) Krause of Benton; one daughter, Susan Hobbs and husband Bruce of Cincinnati, Ohio; one grandson, Richard Hobbs of Cincinnati; one sister, Dorothy Hornig of Cleveland, Ohio; and many other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 9, at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (315- 4047) with Dr. Rick Grant officiating.

Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.

Memorials may be made to the Friends of Shoppach House or First Baptist Church of Benton.
