Spring in Saline Flower Show
Saline County residents can enter their home-grown plants for display and judging at the annual Spring in Saline Flower Show and Plant Sale. The event, sponsored by the Saline County Master Gardeners and the Saline County Cooperative Extension Office, will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12.
There are two categories of exhibitors: Adults, ages 19 and over; and juniors, ages 18 and younger. A special "themed arrangements" section is open to both amateur and professional designers.
Emphasis is on "fresh plant material." No artificial plant material will be allowed in any division of the show.
Entries must have been grown by the exhibitor. Exception is in the amateur and professional "design category."
Exhibitors may bring their potted plants, cut flowers, vegetables, herbs, cut foliage and floral arrangements to the Saline County Fairgrounds between 10 a.m. and noon Friday, April 11, and between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12.
All exhibits will be accepted, labeled and recorded by Saline County Master Gardeners. Ribbons will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place exhibits in each of the eight sections. In addition, a Best of Show entry will receive a cash award.
The show will be open to the public from 9:30 a.m. until noon April 12. Judging will be conducted by qualified judges selected by the Master Gardener Plant Show Committee. All exhibits must be picked up between noon and 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12.
A complete set of rules can be obtained from the Cooperative Extension Office, 1605 Edison Ave., or by calling Pat Gipson at 776-0985.
