Lady Panthers improving game

The Benton Lady Panthers have struggled through their first half of the season, so a muchneeded spring break just might be the ticket to get them back on the winning track.

"Our last game we lost against Sheridan 2-0 and we had plenty of opportunities," said Lady Panthers soccer head coach Steve Hampton. "We made some improvement in the first 10 minutes of the game."

The Lady Panthers were sup- pose to take on Lake Hamilton at home, but weather conditions forced a cancellation.

"Only lightning will stop the game," Hampton said. However, Hampton withdrew his argument after he saw how wet Panther Field was at C.W. Lewis Stadium. He plans to use the time off wisely with plenty of time to rest, with a few practices sprinkled in.

"We've had our ups and downs and we haven't been very consistent," Hampton said. "Against Sheridan we showed we could turn things around for the better. We've got a lot of new girls who are just now getting settled into their positions. Now maybe we can go forward."

Speaking of young players, Sam Comet has been moved to the net as the Lady Panthers new goalkeeper.

"It's her first year to play," Hampton said. "The El Dorado game was her first time to play goalie, but she'll do fine there."

The Benton girls are not scheduled to play again until April 3 at Texarkana.
