The Harmony Grove FBLA had five students compete in the District IV FBLA Spring Leadership Conference at the Hot Springs Convention Center in January. Three members placed in their competitive events: Jewel Windsor, 3rd in Office Procedures; Brooke Baxley, 4th in Accounting I; and Jacob Smith, 4th in Business Law.

Mrs. Brenda Bates, business teacher and sponsor of the FBLA stated, "I'm very proud of their initiative and accomplishments. The students must study and prepare for these tests on their own and in fact they even pay for their entry into the competition."

This competition is held with more than 50 other schools in District IV who all try to qualify for the State Competition which will be held March 28- 29th at the State House Convention Center in Little Rock.

Brooke Baxley, senior, said that this was her first time to compete. But, since she intends to study accounting at Henderson State University, she knew this competition would help prepare her for her studies. Jewel Windsor, junior, is the FBLA president. She feels that as president, she should "set the example" by competing. She hopes to enter college as a pre-med student and even though she will not be a business major, felt that there was much to learn that would help her in her future

studies. Jacob Smith, junior, also competed for the first time but knowing that he intends to go to college felt that academic competition of any kind is important.

The other students to compete were Jennifer Henry in Job Interview and Brittany Hunter in Office Communications.
