POLICE BEAT A Sparkman man was charged with driving while intoxicated after Bryant police saw him driving on a shoulder along Arkansas Highway 5 at 12:42 a.m. Feb. 23. Doyle Vaughn, 50, also stopped at a green traffic light at Reynolds Road and Commerce Drive before officer Nick Ramsey stopped him. Vaughn said he'd had about five beers. After failing a field sobriety test, he was taken to the Saline County jail and charged with driving while intoxicated by the Saline County Sheriff's Office. Shoplifting charges were filed against two Bryant residents after they were caught with concealed merchandise at Target on Feb. 22. Christopher M. Bias, 34, of Quapaw Drive, and Crystal Baugh, 27, of the same address, were charged with shoplifting under $500. A Target loss-prevention officer showed Bryant police a video of Bias cutting a lock on a camcorder and Baugh placing it in her purse. In addition to the camcorder, police recovered several DVD movies and two bras. Bias and Baugh also were banned from area Target stores. A shoplifting and a theft charge were filed against two Bauxite women after concealed items were recovered at Kohl's on Feb. 24. Lori Eastin, 35, of Gravel Road, and Sherry Sweat, 53, of Mars Hill Road, also were banned from the store. Eastin had 10 items, including clothing and shoes, worth $302.96, and was charged with shoplifting. Sweat had 19 items, including clothing and shoes, worth $781.96. She was taken to Saline County Detention Center and charged with theft of property. A Huntley Road man told Benton police that someone stole a black Daten mud pump from the back of his truck the night of March 9. The truck was parked at his home. Loss: $759. A .357 magnum Ruger semiautomatic pistol was taken from his nightstand, a Benton resident of Couchwood Drive told Saline County sheriff's deputies on March 8. He said construction workers have had access to his house. Loss: $600. Miguel Mendez, 22, of South Main Street in Benton was charged with public intoxication after officer Hunter Begoon saw the man stumbling as he walked down Hoover Street. Mendez was taken to the Saline County jail. |
