POLICE BEAT A 17-year-old girl was charged with driving while intoxicated after a traffic stop on Benton Parkway. Police stopped the gray 2002 Nissan Xterra she was driving at 2:43 a.m. Feb. 16 after an officer saw the vehicle stop on the roadway, then resume moving after about a minute. The Benton area girl registered 0.83 blood-alcohol content on a portable breath-testing machine. The Nissan was impounded. A Little Rock man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a 1 p.m. Feb. 16 traffic stop in Benton. The Toyota car was stopped after a Benton officer saw a man driving with a license the officer knew to be suspended. The passenger, Ivory Kennedy, 58, of Leigh Street was charged after a crack pipe was found in the car. The driver, Bradford Higgins, was cited for driving on a suspended license. A black 2005 Chrysler Sebring convertible was reportedly stolen from the Alcoa Road commuter parking lot between 6:15 a.m.-6:06 p.m. Feb. 19. The car had a yellow Dassault Falcon Jet parking sticker. Loss: 10,000. A Bauxite man was charged with shoplifting from the Benton Wal-Mart. Johnny Morrison, 21, of Pettus Street, told police that he brought scissors from home to remove security tags from two power inverters at 7:15 p.m. Feb. 15. A Wal-Mart employee said he saw the suspect cut the tags off, conceal it in the front of his pants and exit the store. The combined value of the inverters was about $77. No personal injuries were reported after a wheel came off a Honda Civic and hit a parked vehicle at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, 218 Commerce St. in Bryant, at 9:45 Feb. 9. Danny Colon, 43, of Alexander said he was driving home from work on the access road when the wheel came off and hit a parked pickup truck. He didn't have a cell phone and ran to a pizza business to call police. The truck was gone when he returned. A Benton woman was charged with battery, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after she stopped at an accident scene and struck a Bryant police officer at 4:13 p.m. Feb. 9. Michelle C. Parker, 38, pulled onto the curb on Bryant Avenue and approached police. She was told that she needed to move her Chevrolet S-10 pickup. She said her husband was in the accident and grabbed an officer. Another officer wrote that he thought she was going to offer medical assistance when she parked, but she walked up and started yelling at police. After being told she was under arrest, she got in the pickup and drove toward the officer, who jumped out of the way. An officer, with pepper spray in hand, opened the truck's door. Police handcuffed her and took her to Saline County jail. A "heavy-set older white woman" reportedly stole a number of items from the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, 218 Commerce St. in Bryant, then drove off in a tan minivan about 10:45 a.m. Feb. 9. The store manager said the suspect took 15 boxed audio CD sets, a shirt and a jacket. The sets averaged $25 each. |
