POLICE BEAT Locking his keys inside a truck led to events that resulted in a Little Rock man's arrest on a Saline County warrant on Feb. 1. Timothy Stanley, 40, a Jennings Road resident, told a patrolling Benton police officer that he'd locked his keys inside his employer's truck at 15617 Interstate 30. Stanley said the keys were in the center console. The officer looked inside with a flashlight, and in plain view on the rear seat was a "pipe that is commonly used to smoke marijuana." The driver denied knowledge or ownership of the pipe, but was taken to Saline County jail, where he was booked on possession of drug paraphernalia and on the earlier warrant. A Benton man was charged with possession of a controlled substance after his 1996 Honda Accord was stopped near the Sevier Street overpass on Feb. 3. Brandon Tully, 19, of Paradise Circle in Benton was stopped for failing to signal a right turn off Sevier Street. The police officer saw what appeared to be a hand-rolled marijuana cigarette between the driver's legs. After being placed in handcuffs, Tully said he had three more cigarettes in the back seat. A Benton man hoping to sell metal for scrap faces theft charges. Police found the suspect standing beside a bucket a block from the victim's house on Jan. 30 after police were notified of the theft. William Bowers III told Benton police that a white 5-gallon bucket containing chrome plumbing pieces was given him by a "Mrs. Morrison." The suspect was taken to the victim's home at the intersection of Reed Street and Apostle's Cove, where the owner identified him as the man who took the bucket. Bowers then said he found the bucket in woods near the home. The bucket and contents were valued at $10. A Benton man was cited for driving while intoxicated after Bryant police saw his Dodge pickup weaving on Alcoa Road on Jan. 13. Jackie E. Wright, 56, of Wright Avenue tested 0.22 blood-alcohol content at Bryant Police Department. He also was cited for driving left of center. A red 1998 Mercury Mountaineer reportedly was stolen from the 2400 block of Edison Avenue on Jan. 31. Owner Baldomero Ibarra Resendiz said he'd left the keys in the vehicle. A Bauxite woman said her wallet was stolen from her unlocked Toyota Camry while it was parked at the Benton Wal- Mart between 11:30 a.m.-noon Jan. 29. She was parked in the 15-minute parking space near the grocery door. It contained cash, prescription medicine and her driver's license. Loss: $90. Copper valued at $1,500 was reportedly stolen from All Steel Construction, 1222 Airlane Road, Benton. An estimated 400 feet of copper welding leads were removed from machines the night of Jan. 31. A woman was arrested on an outstanding Bryant warrant after a Jan. 13 domestic disturbance. Her husband said his wife was threatening to take the four children to Texas, but he didn't want her driving because she was intoxicated. The report noted that both appeared intoxicated, and both were told not to drive until they were sober. Jennifer L. Hall, 28, of Richland Park Loop in Bryant said a friend to driven the couple to "the fights" in Little Rock, and later took them home. She was booked at Saline County jail and released. An Avilla woman was charged with shoplifting from the Kohl's store at Alcoa Exchange on Jan. 13. Joni D. Earnest, 19, was charged with taking two garments worth a total of $72. |
