Larry Cogburn, executive director of Central Arkansas Development Council in Benton, was recently elected president of the Arkansas Community Action Agencies Association.

The Arkansas Community Action Agencies Association - ACAAA - is a private, nonprofit organization based in Little Rock. ACAAA provides training, technical assistance, communications support, information resource development, and advocacy to the 16 private, non-profit community action agencies throughout the state. Last year, ACAAA's member agencies injected $132 million into communities throughout the state to help more than 200,000 low-income people.

Cogburn succeeded Phyliss Fry of the Community Action Program for Central Arkansas in Conway. He previously served as vice president of ACAAA.

"I consider it an honor and a privilege to be elected to this position and to act as a liaison and advocate between the state's 16 community action agencies, the community, and the public and private sector on a statewide and national platform. As we strengthen our network of strong, results-oriented and committed community action agencies, we look to empower low-income, working poor families to success in the state," said Cogburn. "We invite other organizations to join us in that work."

Cogburn has worked at CADC since 1972. He served as the chief financial officer until 2003, when he was named executive director of CADC.
