POLICE BEAT The smell of marijuana smoke led Benton police to a car in Tyndall Park, and charges on a Benton man. Sidney Bradbury, 18, who lives on Market St., was charged with driving while intoxicated-drugs after failing a sobriety test and admitting he'd smoked marijuana a half hour earlier. He said he'd had one or two beers, and tested 0.025 breath-alcohol content. A number of plastic bags, some containing small amounts of suspected marijuana, were found in his 1993 Oldsmobile Achieva. Bradbury had been sitting in his parked car listening to the car's radio. Another man at the scene, Jeffery Duckworth, 20, was picked up on a Benton warrant and taken to the Saline County jail. After almost striking a parked police car on Popular Street, a Benton woman was cited for DWI. One open can was shoved between the driver's seat and center console. A Colton's Steakhouse employee said a white male in a group of two men and two women failed to pay for his meal. The group left in a Honda Accord. Loss: $13.06. The car's brake lights came on and the car slowed to 35 miles an hour after blue lights were activated. The car continued on to Highway 35 (Carpenter Street), and police activated sirens. Once stopped, the driver said he'd swerved because he'd dropped a cigarette, and said he hadn't stopped earlier because he didn't see the cop. He tested 0.14 BAC at the police department, and was also cited with no seat belt, driving left of center and driving on a suspended driver's license. He was released to a relative. Marcus Brady Snellings, 28, of Legacy Drive, Benton, was cited for DWI after an a traffic stop that started on Alcoa Road and ended at the driver's home. He said he'd had "about four drinks before I left the club." He tested 0.161 BAC and was also cited for unsafe driving and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
