Activities will honor King's visionary dream
A free dinner kicks off the Benton Unity Celebration at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 in First United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Bishop Felton May speaks at 6 p.m., and results of the school essay contest (see page 7 article) will be announced. King's life will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 in Pleasant Hill AME Church, 302 Reed St. The Ralph Bunche Community Choir will perform. The annual Ralph Bunche Community Service Award will also be announced. Organizers urge everyone to join in a community service project Monday. The Ralph Bunche Park cleanup starts at 9 a.m., or participants could join in one of their choosing. The MLK Parade in downtown Benton will be at 3 p.m. Jan. 21. Christine Jones, one of the oldest members of the Ralph Bunche Community, will be the parade's honorary marshal. Participation in the parade is free. "Spirit" awards will be given. The mission of the Ralph Bunche Community Development Corp. is to provide opportunities to increase the economic and social development of lowincome individuals, families and other organizations and to improve the quality of life in the Ralph Bunche Community.
