Most people never think that they will have a need for an audiologist and many could not even tell you what an audiologist does. But if you have ever experienced hearing loss or dizziness, then you should consider a visit to Saline Audiology.

Hearing disorders can result from a variety of causes, including trauma at birth, viral infections, genetic disorders, exposure to loud noise, certain medications or aging. Treatment may include examining and cleaning the ear canal and fitting and dispensing hearing aids. All of these services are available right here in Saline County without having to make the drive into Little Rock.

Audiologists work with people who have hearing, balance, and related ear problems. They examine individuals of all ages and identify those with the symptoms of hearing loss and other auditory, balance, and related sensory and neural problems. They then assess the nature and extent of the problems and help the individuals manage them. Using audiometers, computers, and other testing devices, they measure the loudness at which a person begins to hear sounds, the ability to distinguish between sounds, and the impact of hearing loss on an individual's daily life. In addition, audiologists use computer equipment to evaluate and diagnose balance disorders. Audiologists interpret these results and may coordinate them with medical, educational, and psychological information to make a diagnosis and determine a course of treatment.

As a primary hearing health provider, audiologists refer patients to physicians when the hearing or balance problem requires medical or surgical evaluation or treatment.

Saline Audiology Associates is a partnership in its 11th year between Lisa Richey and Crendonna Miller. The two first met in junior high school when Richey's family moved here from El Dorado and later attended grad school together. Both received their master's degrees from UAMS, Richey in 1987 and Miller in 1988. In 2000 the duo obtained their AuD degrees from the Arizona School of Health Sciences.

Richey and her husband, Curtis have two children, a daughter, Ramsi, and a son, Will.

Miller and her husband, Mike have three sons, Kaleb, Dylan and Miles.

"We have a great hearing aid program here at Saline Audiology," says Richey. "But we don't just look to sell a hearing aid. We look for the reason for the patient's hearing loss. Although our hearing aid business is a large part of our business it's not all we do. We have a maneuver that we can do here in the office to help patients with dizziness."

Saline Audiology adds to the growing number of specialty professionals in this area allowing people to obtain local services from experienced experts in the area of audiology and hearing technology.

"We offer a gamete of services," states Miller. "Including tests for dizziness and hearing loss. We provide these services with the utmost care, integrity and expertise. We truly care about each individual patient and work hard to meet his or her needs. We take great pride in the fact that we are hometown gals. We personally know a lot of our patients and the families of the Saline County area. We feel that this adds a familiar and trusting element to our services."

"We also make custom ear molds for patient's iPods and BlueTooth ear pieces," explains Richey. "Although some people might not give that much thought, if you wear an ear piece all day one that fits comfortably makes a big difference."

Saline Audiology is located at 5 Medical Park Drive in Medical Park Place II, suite 101. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday though Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
