Citing hazard, Bryant bans novelty lighter
By LAJUAN MOONEY Features editor

The Bryant City Council passed an ordinance restricting the sale of novelty lighters.

Fire Chief Randy Cox spoke of the dangers of children playing with novelty lighters.

"Normal cigarette lighters must be child proof. These novelty lighter do not have that restriction," Cox said. "Kids should not have to determine the difference between a toy and a cigarette lighter."

The council suspended the rules to hear all three readings, and passed it on a unanimous vote.

In other business, several property owners in the Woodland Park Road area spoke about the need for water.

"We all feel like we deserve water, we have paid city taxes for two years now," said Martha Wise. "We would like to know when we might expect to get water."

Property owner Jack Mosley also spoke on the need for water in the area and on the need for added police protection also.

His main concern was the speed of the traffic on Woodland Park Road especially before and after school.

The council also appointed Jason Patterson as a committee member for the water board.
