POLICE BEAT Brian Harris, 26, of Chesire Drive, Benton, was charged with driving while intoxicated after the Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving ran into the ditch on Chesterfield Road. Harris was taken to Saline County jail, where he tested 0.202 breath-alcohol content. Harris was also charged with careless and prohibited driving. Passenger Gregory Smith told Benton police he wasn't injured. Benton police stopped a vehicle which had been traveling an estimated 35 miles per hour in the inside lane of Interstate 30. Dennis Powery, 31, of Pleasant Pointe, Bryant, was taken to Saline County jail, where he refused to have a substance test. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test, careless and prohibited driving failure to register for more than 60 days. Melissa Kelley, 25, of Crestwood, Benton was cited for driving while intoxicated and careless and prohibited driving after her vehicle missed a wrecked vehicle on I-30 by estimated inches. She tested 0.17 BAC at Saline County jail. A passenger, Robert Burnett, 30, of North Little Rock, was cited for public intoxication, obstruction of government operations and was served with "numerous warrants from various agencies," including Benton, Bryant, Jackson County and Sherwood. A vehicle reported stolen in Texas was recovered by Benton police after it was stopped after reports of being driven erratically while eastbound on Interstate 30. Driver Kevin Miles, 43, of Dallas, Texas, and passenger Angel Valladares, 26, of Dallas, were both cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and theft by receiving. Vallaqdares was also held on a Lonoke County warrant. Both occupants denied knowledge of it being stolen. Miles said he didn't have registration because it wasn't his vehicle.
